“The Conjuring: Last Rites” takes viewers back to 1986, five years after the events of the previous film. Ed and Lorraine Warren have retired from paranormal investigations due to Ed’s declining health. However, when the Smurl family in Pennsylvania reaches out for help, the Warrens are pulled into one final, terrifying case—one of the most intense and horrifying supernatural events they’ve ever faced.

The Conjuring: Last Rites draws inspiration from the infamous Smurl haunting case in Pennsylvania—one of the most publicized supernatural investigations undertaken by Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Smurl family endured years of unexplained phenomena in their home, including foul odors, strange noises, and physical assaults from invisible entities.

Family members, including their children and even their dog, reported missing items, levitations, scratches, and being thrown by unseen forces.
